This bathroom was inspired by the beautiful Macchia Vecchia stone, it was the perfect blender for raw brass, warm oak and grey/ inky accents. The oak shaker cabinetry adds warmth to the space and connects with the hallway flooring.

The brief for this space was to create additional storage and a powder bathroom for guests. This space connects the back entrance and the foyer of the home. These deep walls were inspired by the incredible Viola marble. Oak cabinetry, the leather seating and gorgeous lighting warm up the space. It’s not quite finished (still brass coat hooks and some painting to complete) but I am so happy with how it has turned out.

A few years ago my sister Heather and I, with our love of interiors, gardens and botanicals collaborated together to create @curatedbotanics (with a little/LOT of help by my husband John!) We started the business solely to provide the best quality and most beautiful artificial botanicals for everyday life, however our love for Christmas means that at this time of the year our ever growing Christmas collection takes over.

When we were growing up our Nan made Christmas extra special. She would always put garlands on the handrails and special touches on the mantle, she made chocolate dipped macadamias, filled the house with gardenias and set the most beautiful dining table - it was always our favourite day of the year.
I remember our first year in business and Heather (who is a florist and designs and makes our floral arrangements) suggesting we make wreaths and garlands - she was in her element and still is!
A few wreaths and garlands has escalated into multiple collections including trees, decorations and every other little touch of Christmas that we believe will bring joy and help make Christmas special in your home. Each year Heather and I collaborate on designing the Christmas range and the designs are always considered through a summer lens, aiming to captivate the magic of Christmas for a New Zealand home.

Laundry’s, even super compact ones, can be beautiful and functional. This laundry was reconfigured with large bi-folding shaker doors to hide the appliances and everyday ‘laundry life’. Next to this is a large cupboard filled with internal drawers which provide easy access to the household linens.

A late afternoon video of our Ponsonby Villa project. @crossonarchitects previously did an amazing extension to the rear of this home with this architectural addition known as ‘the light box’. The way the light plays in this space throughout the day is pretty special. The original villa was untouched and the clients wanted the home to feel warm and homely. We laid new oak flooring through the home and added a new internal steel door to enhance the connection between the old and the new.

We fully reconfigured this bathroom to allow for a new double hung window and a cast iron bath beneath. The bath was powder coated to match the upper walls and the feet electroplated in antique brass to tone with the tapware and heated towel rail.

It was an absolute treat to work on this Ponsonby Villa. The home had recently been extended out the back but the original part of the villa was in need of some love and attention.
Parquet oak flooring was laid throughout the house and a steel door installed at the end of the hallway, these both assisted in blending the old part of the home to the new. The hallway was repainted a warm soft neutral and we added new (but vintage) lighting. Swipe to see before….

Sometimes the simple things can be far from it. This little bathroom had every surface rebuilt and straightened. To execute detailed tiles with perfection and precision the substrate needs to be plumb and straight - not something you ever find in villas! The new half wall was reinforced with steel for strength. Everything needs to be set in the right place for it all to come together and look effortless!
